“High” School

The topic of random searches and drug testing for students has been debated for years. While drug abuse in our children is an obvious and constant concern, what about teachers?

Recently a coworker and good friend, discovered that his brother is addicted to Meth and has been for the past four years. This in itself is bad enough, but what is worse is that his brother is a 56-year-old High School music teacher.

I work for a small printed circuit board manufacturer and in the last two years I have been tested for drugs eight times.

My son recently applied for a job at a local Price Club, he had to take a drug test at the time of application, then wait a few weeks and get tested again before the interview.

I found it very hard to believe that the school system would not drug test the people in charge of our children’s education and care. The school is after all run by the State and the government must have strict drug testing policies.

Don’t they?

After some research and some phone calls, I have not been able to verify that there is indeed a program in place for testing school teachers or administration at any grade level.

There is drug testing in place for school bus drivers, at least in Arizona, but nothing for teachers. Can this be true?

Do our nations schools put our children at risk by allowing them to be exposed to dangerous and unpredictable drug addicts right in the classroom?
