Senator McCain’s alleged marital indiscretions with a lobbyist during his 2004 presidential campaign has been the “hot” topic the last couple days. This is sad, especially in light of the amazing thing that has been happening in the elections this year.
There’s been very little mud-slinging among the candidates, and even more amazing than the restraint shown in the campaigns, are the voters voices. American’s have made it clear that they are not going to tolerate or respond to negativity. People want the topics not the gossip.
Obama has been very good at keeping it clean, and so has Hillary Clinton for the most part. She has dipped her toe in the dirty pool a couple times but the act was met with scorn. She got boo’s during the Texas Democratic debate when she started attacking Obama on borrowing from others in his speeches. As well her hubby, Bill Clinton, has been criticized by the public and in the news for bashing Barack while campaigning for his wife.
So when the NY Times ran the article on McCain’s possible infidelity I had to wonder why. First of all it happened four years ago. Second, they’ve had the story since December, so why now bring it up? Lastly and most importantly… so what!
The questioning the morality of politicians based on if they get a little on the side is absurd. I don’t care who they are boffing, where do they stand on international relations? What does it matter who’s dress they are getting their little soldiers on as long as our troops aren’t dying to fatten Richy Rich’s wallets.
Honestly I give McCain props if he did plug Vicki Iseman, she’s a hot little cougar. Hell as a man I’d give him a “Yeah Boy” if I heard he made a McCain sandwich with Vicki and his wife Cindy. But I still wouldn’t vote for him because I don’t agree with his policies.
And to be fair, if Hillary becomes the first woman President of the United States of America, more power to her if she gets spit-roasted by a couple of Chippendale’s in the Lincoln bedroom every Friday night.
Politics in general and the presidency in particular comes with a lot of stress, and sex is a great stress reliever. The leader of the nation should be gettin’ it regular however they like it. Bill got a spit shine in the Oval Office, all the Kennedy’s zippers are broken and it’s a good bet that damn near every President in history has used their executive power to breach some young thangs southern border.
What matters in a politician is if they are working for the people. If a Senator gets caught with a transvestite whore, but does his job, I don’t care. If a Congressman is undermining environmental policies to cater to lobbyist, NOW that is a problem, even if he has been loyal to his wife of 25 years.
With that, given that Iseman was a lobbyist, if McCain was doing favors for her (non-sexual favors), then we have a problem. I don’t care what Kama-Sutra position the man is caught in, I care about how he uses his political position.
Yeah, yeah I hear the conservatives. “If someone will cheat on their spouse that is a reflection of the their morality”. Well I beg to differ! Sex is a personal issue, not a moral one, unless it involves rape or molestation. There is no more proof that someone who screws around is immoral, than there is that someone that is monogamous is moral.
Baby Bush has a cocaine conviction and is a military deserter and despite that he was elected twice. And on top of his Constitutional violations and lies, I bet he’s left a few interns walking funny, we just haven’t heard about it.
Basically, we should be paying attention to policy not libido.
