Fall of the U.S. Empire

In a mere two centuries the United States has sprouting from a seed of liberty and freedom into the one of the most powerful and influential nations in the history of the World. Unfortunately as history has shown us being on top is a fleeting thing and the U.S. is no exception. In fact our Empire may be closer to collapse than you think.

Our economy is faltering, our social services lacking, and our standing in the global community is tenuous at best.  Although the degradation of our nation has been happening for decades, the last few have seen its acceleration.

The financial success of any country hinges on trade and a delicate balance between import and export. Over the last thirty years the U.S. has increasingly become reliant on outside resources and manufacturing. As a country we are producing less and less. It does not stop at goods and resources either; most recently we have seen the rapidly growing trend of outsourcing even our skilled labor to other countries.

This not only means fewer jobs for Americans it is bad for other reasons; our over-dependence on outside resources leaves us vulnerable and is a weakness our enemies can exploit to decimate us without ever firing a shot.  It is also a classic precursor to financial collpse as more money is leaving the country than is coming in causing a distressed economy.

A weakened economy translates to poor social services. Education  and medical care in the U.S. is sadly inadequate even in comparison to some third world nations and the strength of any nation is in its people. Lower education standards result in the very people of a nation becoming ineffective.

The People, the sad downfall of the United States of America. In a flourishing Empire where the people have lived a life of plenty and known few hardship for many generations they become complacent.  This is what has happened to Americans, we have become lazy and apathetic and the fiscal and social shortcomings of the United States are a direct result of our complacency.

Americans do not see the value or feel the need to participate in their our own government system anymore, a system that is specifically designed to function properly only with the peoples participation. We have forgotten that it was not financial prowess or military might made this nation strong, it was the strength, compassion and the desire for equality for all that made the United States great.

We no longer fight for the ideals that this nation was founded upon. We are more concerned with our own comfort and amusement than the direction of our society or our greater role in the world. Like the Romans before us, who sat and cheered in the coliseums while their civilization crumbled, we ignore that our way of life is about to dramatically change and when this change comes we will not be ready for it.

America has become weak; take away one of our comforts and we will fall apart. All it will take is one or more nations to cut us off from our oil supply. We cannot even bring ourselves to give up some convenience to save our own environment, when our basic infrastructures begin to collapse our society will be thrust into chaos.

Take a look at history, we have made the same mistakes as the ancient Chinese, Greeks and Romans. All of the classic elements are there,  weakening economy, over-dependence on outside resources, failing social systems, growing disfavor in the World community and an ignorant and complacent peoples and above all damning arrogance.

It is just a matter of time.
