Exit through the gift shop - A Banksy Film

Street art, otherwise known as graffiti, is considered by some to be child’s play or for hoodlums and is associated with vandalism. My own personal opinion is that this art form is one of the most revolutionary forms of art in the world. My opinion was solidified when I came across the documentary called Exit Through The Gift Shop.

If you are interested in a film that opens your eyes to the concept that art is more than just drawings on paper or paintings on canvas, then you will want to see this movie. If you are interested in seeing a nobody become a somebody overnight and completely change the worlds perception of art, go see this movie. If you would like to see how naïve our world really is and how people are really just sheep, then you will want to see this exhillarating, over the top, inspiring movie.

Exit Through The Gift Shop was “accidentally” created by Thierry Guetta, a french immigrant who was living in Los Angeles with his family. This shop owner turned wannabe film maker became obsessed with filming street art, due to a chance meeting with his cousin, who happened to be a well known street artist called “Invader”. Thierry would go on excursions filming Invader while he would post up his own unique art forms on property throughout different cities. Thierry became so obsessed with the street art that he set out to film numerous other prevalent street artists, which included the likes of Banksy and Shepard Fairey, among others. There is a major twist in the film which blew my mind. I will decline to give it away as to not spoil the ending, but this is hands down a “must see film” !
